Registration Processing Time
Registration applications are processed on a priority basis according to date of receipt of the application.

The current processing and review time is approximately 4 weeks, provided all supporting documentation, including your Certificate(s) of Registration Status, have been lodged with the Board.

After this time you will be forwarded a notification of the date on which the Board will consider your application or a notification that further information is required.

Upon your registration being approved, your details will become available on the Board’s website at the Public Access Register.

Office counter hours are 9.00am to 4.00pm Monday to Friday, with telephone contact being available
9.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday.

Board Membership

The board is comprised of 10 members recommended by the Minister for Health and appointed by the Governor in Council for a period of up to 4 years.

The appointed members include:

six registered medical practitioners;
one medical practitioner nominated by Queensland's educational institutions;
two public members with an interest in, and knowledge of consumer health issues, who have never held registration as a medical practitioner or nurse; and
one lawyer.

The Chief Health Officer is the eleventh member of the Board.

Recruiting Board Members

Membership of the Board reflects, as far as possible, the make up of the larger medical profession in Queensland. Nominations for membership are sought from a variety of sources, including:

professional associations;
educational institutions;
community groups and other entities the Minister considers have an interest in consumer health issues;
legal associations;
Queensland Register of Nominees to Government Bodies; and
Public Notices calling for expressions of interest (advertisements).

If nominations are sought for membership to the Board, applicants will be required to submit a written expression of interest demonstrating:

their ability to function as a director of a statutory body or similar organisation;
their ability to contribute to higher level policy development;
their knowledge, or ability to quickly acquire knowledge, of the requirements of the Medical Practitioners Registration Act 2001 and the Health Practitioners (Professional Standards) Act 1999.
