Application processing times
An unprecedented number of applications received by the Board in May and June will result in longer processing times for some applications. The Medical Board and Queensland Health Area Health Services have an escalation process in place which ensures applications for critical positions are processed with priority. General practitioner applications are still being processed within normal timelines.
If you are applying for registration in Queensland there are a variety of documents you need to include with the application form specific to the assessment pathway you use.
Documents required with all applications include:
You must arrange for an ORIGINAL Certificate of Registration Status (CORS), formerly Certificate of Good Standing, to be forwarded from each licensing authority where you have practiced medicine.
We strongly suggest you commence the CORS process as soon as you have received and accepted your letter of appointment, as it can take up to three months for paperwork to be finalised, possibly delaying final processing of your application.
Please note:
These certificates MUST be forwarded directly to:

All IMGs seeking registration are required to pass an English language proficiency test. This provides an objective measure to determine whether the applicant’s language skills are appropriate to the professional requirements of medical practice in Queensland.
Exemption from completion of English language proficiency testing may be granted where the applicant can provide evidence of secondary education in English in a country where English is the ‘native’ or ‘first’ language. These countries are Canada, Republic of Ireland, New Zealand, United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, United States of America and South Africa.
The evidence required is:
If you require further information you can view the National English Language Policy (

All applicants for registration must satisfy the Board of their identity. If you are applying for registration you will need to provide proof of your identity by presenting verifiable documentation (minimum value 100 points).
A list of documents that may be presented to the Board along with their matched point value is available as part of the National Identification Validation Standard (
76k).
You also need to include two (2) passport-style photographs with your application.
Please attach a certified copy of the academic qualifications nominated in your application. If qualification documents are in a language other than English, an original English translation undertaken by a NAATI-accredited translator MUST be attached.
Top of pageIn accordance with the National Policy on Verification of Qualifications, agreed to by all Australian state and territory medical boards, when applying for registration all IMGs must include evidence that they have applied for primary source verification of any qualifications used to support the registration application.
Details on how to apply for verification of qualifications are available from the Australian Medical Council (AMC) website.
The AMC has an agreement with the US Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) who verifies medical qualifications with the issuing authority (i.e. primary source). This agreement allows for sharing of relevant information between the AMC, the ECFMG and the state and territory medical boards.
IMGs are able to make application directly to the AMC who will contact the Educational International Credentials Service (EICS) of the ECFMG to commence the verification process. Information on verification results will be provided to the AMC electronically and the AMC will then provide details of the verification directly to the medical boards.
The Board is not involved in the initial process.
The Medical Board of Queensland's Verification of Qualifications Policy (
45k) is available here.
All applications need to be accompanied by a current curriculum vitae. A Board-approved standard format for curriculum vitae is provided as an appendix to the Application for Special Purpose Registration – Medical Practitioner/Deemed Specialist (Form M1SP).
Top of pageEach category of Special Purpose registration requires additional documents to be included with your application. Please refer to pages 7 and 8 of the Application for Special Purpose Registration – Medical Practitioner/Deemed Specialist (Form M1SP) for details.
All documents required to be submitted with your application must be originals or certified copies (except qualifications being verified by the AMC). If documents are in languages other than English, an original English translation by a NAATI-accredited translator MUST be attached.
